Every karateka is required to affiliate once they have started karate.

In 1963 Stan Schmidt started karate in South Africa. He studied karate in Japan under the Japanese Karate Association (JKA). The style that was and still is practiced is called Shotokan.

  • Highway JKA Karate is affiliated to SA JKA, which is affiliated to JKA situated in Japan.
  • Highway JKA is also affiliated to Karate South Africa (KSA), which is affiliated to SASCOC and World Karate Federation (WKF). WKF is the only world karate body, recognized by the IOC.
  • Highway JKA is affiliated with the KZN Karate Association.
